The Icy arch

The naked trees towered over us as we walked along the icy pathway. We were heading towards a big archway of snow covered trees as we started to realise it  lead  to a whole new icy land. Wow look at the sparkling icy lake and the people in the village skating upon the ice. A little boy skated to us and said

“hi their my name is Freddie come join us”.      

We looked up at each other and smiled , let's do it we thought to ourselves.

“Where are the ice skates?“ Tia asked  

“In that little blue and white shed” said Freddie

“Ok thank you” lyric said as Freddie skated away. We ran to the other side of the frozen lake and opened the door

“wow” Chloe  said under her breath as we looked around the sparkling white walls with lots of gold shelves with lots of different colors and sizes.

“Right” Tia said “what size are you chloe” Tia asked
“I'm size 2” replies   Chloe, what about you Lyric

“I'm a size 5” replied Lyric

“and I’m size 3” Tia said,  so off we went to go and get our ice skates, we all squeezed on our ice skates then carefully walked over to the lake.

About 5 minutes later we all had our ice skates on.

“So how do we ice skate I kinda forgot how to use them” Chloe yelled to Tia

“um just walk around the edge then you will get the hang of it” Tia yelled

“ ok ”said chloe as she slipped on to her bum

“ouch” !!! chloe screamed. We skated all around the lake until about 9.00 then we thought it might be time to go to bed.

“where is the visitor hut” Tia asked freddie

“over there” he said

“thanks” said Lyric and off we went to the visitor hut, we finally got there when we saw how beautiful the place looked with 4 pure white bunks and  the ladders were beautiful sparkling gold.

“ok we need to go to sleep not admire the room” announced Tia

“ok” replied Chloe and Lyric at the same time. We hopped into bed and snuggled up into the warm, comfy covers as we fell fast asleep.

When morning came we jumped out of bed and whipped back into our day clothes and ran outside. WOW we said under our breath of steam

“look at the sunrise” said Lyric amazed

“yeah it’s amazing” whispered Tia.

The trumpets are going off “ahh what do we do is their an emergency”screeched Chloe at Tia and Lyric.

“Hey you guys are you hungry” yelled a villager as she ran closer

“Yeah of course we are” announced chloe

Then come over to the banquet

“Ok” as we ran behind  the villager the tables were full with pancakes and eggs , bacon and more.

“Hey guys look at the cake it’s ten layers high” said lyric. Tia’s mouth was watering as she looked at the huge chocolate cake before her.Chloe almost fainted when she saw how tall the chocolate fudge cake was,It looked like a staircase. At the end of the day all the food was gone and it was time to go home to bed. We ran to to the visitor hut and opened the door and ran inside to bed.

“Hey guys wake up” whispered chloe

“I think their might be someone in here, I can hear somebody in that chest over there” Chloe whispered  “ok who is it” Tia and Lyric whispered together “i don’t know let’s have a look” so Chloe,Tia and Lyric tiptoed over to the chest and opened it and…  Somebody Leaped out “Move out of my way my son is waiting” The Grumpy old Man yelled!!!

“I’m suspicious that was Freddie’s dad because I knew he looked up to mischief” Tia confirmed .

“I don’t know Tia Freddie is nice” said Lyric.

“Well he had a evil like smile” said Chloe.

“Ok definitely evil” said Lyric.

We went back to bed then thump bang it made the same noise

“what the heck is going on now” said Chloe.

“It's not in here we'll see in the morning then report it” said Tia worried .

“ok” said Lyric. So off we went to the town hall. We walked into the town hall and went to the reception and told them what happened to us  they said “trap him”

“What are we going to do” Chloe said in a worried voice,

“I know” said Lyric

“we could trap him in a cage”

“No no no” said Tia

“we could trap him in the forest with barbwire and get his name and age and everything about him”

“That's good” said chloe

“Let's go tell the town hall people and get supplies”

“Ok let's go” yelled Lyric already running off

We ran to the town hall and told them everything we had in mind, then they took us to this really weird place and gave us all the supplies.

Then we went home and put our stuff in the safe and went to bed.

The ice was sparkling and we raced to the village and we found the man  that was in the chest. Chloe was sooooooooooooo surprised

The next day we started to make the barb wire cage the long , thick , black wire swirled around  forming a strong base . We wrapped the wire around and around until we formed a nice, strong cage to catch the man in .

“ I think this will do” said Tia.

We set it up in the forest so we could catch the old man in action.  

“Were sure to catch him now” said Chloe .

“ Yeah”said Tia .

While we were making the cage the town hall people were making a lock for the cage. We put the lock on the cage and left it open for the old man to go inside.We heard a few noises but it was just a couple possums.   It was heading to night so we went to bed.

Boom crash bang. “What was that” shrieked lyric jumping out of bed “I don’t know” said chloe panicking” well we are going to find out” said Tia calmly. We put on our slippers, ran outside and rung the village bell to wake everyone up then we all ran to giant cage that was closed. We looked in the cage, two people were sitting inside one was crying and the other pacing. “We caught  them” whispered Tia “Yep” whispered lyric. We ran into the cage and there they were Freddie and his dad. “What are you doing” yelled Chloe “nothing we were …. We were”said Freddies dad “We know you up to something” Tia yelled “fine” said Freddie “No son No” yelled his dad “we were ... up to something” Said freddie “knew it” said Lyric “we are going to report this to the closest prison” Said Tia. So they took them to the few cells that were there until the prison comes to collect them.   

Once they got there everyone was cheering and hugging the three heros that saved them from their misery, but it was time to go home back through the Icy ach and back down the Icy path way all the way home.

First we planed what we were drawing .
Then we got a big piece of paper the drew
the out lines then drew and labeled the signs.
Then black outlined the signs lines and labels.
Then we did the word find and words then filled
it in. Then we black outlined then the wrote the
rules with the signs.

 

P.B.L Volcano

This is a composite volcano. A composite volcano is a volcano that is very tall and steep.

Here is a little description of volcanoes: 

Introduction

There is one big question and that question is what are volcanoes. Then there are more questions alongside it like how they are formed, how they erupt, why they have vents,what is magma and what is the earth's crust. What is the answer? Well you’re about to find out.

How do volcanoes form?

Volcanos form by trapped magma pushing its way through the earth's crust to reach the surface. When the magma reaches the surface it explodes out and is now called lava, the lava keeps pouring out of the crack in the earth until there is no more magma to come up. Then the lava cools and turns back into its normal form stone which causes a volcano to form.

How do volcanos erupt?

Volcanos erupt by the tectonic plates moving around which activates the magma to rise. When the magma rises to the top of the volcano it turns into lava and explodes out of the volcano. After about 1 hour (if not longer) the volcano will stop erupting and the lava will cool and turn back into stone.It turns back into stone because magma forms by rocks melting beneath the earth then it turns into magma and then when lava cools it turns into stone or pumice. Pumice is formed by gases still in lava when it cools that forms pumice.

What impact do volcanoes have on the world we live in?

Destruction/Damage is caused by the lava burning trees and houses. Pollution/Ash pollutes our water so we have no drinkable water, also we can’t use showers. Lava/Gases burns trees, houses and fences which is harmful to animals, people and lots of wildlife.	Farming/Ash helps with the soil around crops. Ash is good for the soil around crops. Heating is made by the lava in the earth's crust. metals are made when the volcano erupts lava, and then then when the lava cools it turns into metals, pumice, ash and stones/rocks.

How I made my volcano
I started my volcano at home and I painted the grass and put chicken wire in the shape of the volcano.

The next day I took it to school ready for term 4 so I could start my volcano.

When the time came to do my volcano Lyric and I Paper mashe the chicken wire 3 times then we left it over night to dry. Next we painted our  volcano brown and waited for that to dry so we glued the houses and trees onto our volcano. By the time we had done, the brown paint was dry so we did the lava and did a second coat of brown paint then left it over night to dry. Finally it is Friday so then we painted over the dried glue splodges on the grass and under the chicken wire then we did  another coat of brown paint and did the ash in the lava then left it over night. On Monday we did one last coat of paint then left it and we were done.

That is how we made our volcano.   

Reflection

One learning muscle I have stretched is my collaboration muscle because I worked with lyric and I am not strong with that learning muscle because I am independent and I don't like working with other people.

Something that was challenging was paper maching my volcano because when ever we went to do another coat there were holes in it so we had to keep going until there were none left.

One thing I enjoyed was creating the model because I have always liked to made models and do art so I enjoyed making the volcano itself.

after camp we wanted to thank the parents that came to camp with us so we have been writing a thank you letter over the past week and we are going to give them to the parents so they are thanked. here is one of three that I have done, as an example.

Dear Steven

First I’d like to thank you for giving up your time and energy for a week and coming to camp with us and having fun and supervising us.

My first highlight is caving because we had to do a challenge and that challenge was to not get your shoes dirty because the end cave’s floor was covered in bat poo. so instead of walking through it we had to try not to fall of the walls into it and shimmy across the walls. I also liked caving because i had to be brave and crawl through gaps and tunnels and try not to think about spiders and wetas.

Another highlight was kayaking because Lyric and I were together and when we started we were not in time but until we figured out what way each other were going then we managed to get our rhythm. One other thing I liked about kayaking was when we got stuck in the weed and couldn't get out so we had to struggle our way out by back paddling (going backwards) to get out of the trees and weed.

My last highlight was walking the hinerau track because it took forever and also I enjoyed the scenery of the trees and plants covering the dirt. I also liked it because of the scenery when we got up to the top of the mountain because the lake was clear water. I also enjoyed watching the stupid challenge. The stupid challenge is when you have to go into water waist depth and stay in the freezing cold water for 45 seconds. But I did not do it because i’m not stupid.

One interesting fact is that camp kaitawa used to be a school but it shut down because hardly anyone went their because it is such a small area.

for maths this week I have had to chose a tent out of tent a,b,c,d and e. I chose tent c. tent c was a half of a cylinder with 5 faces the base, the 2 sides and the 2 front peices.

The wonderful world of my imagination

The dark sky raged over us as night fell. I was getting ready for bed when mum said “You can read” “Thanks mum” I replied as I was walking into my room. I jumped onto my bed as if it was a trampoline and then I picked up my favorite book off my bed side table. I opened it up and started reading. As I was reading I started to feel like I was the character, just then I noticed I was in my imagination.

I walked through the flower bed as I realised everything was Really Really colourful. I knew I was in another world. The sky was bright blue with pink clouds that looked like fluffy candyfloss. As I was walking around I saw a figure it looked like a big building , I ran as fast as my legs could go, It looked like a stable a horse stable . I ran to it and saw the most beautiful thing ever it was completely white and had a rainbow mane and tail, it had big long legs and big blue eyes as blue as the sky, she was my dream horse. Also the stables were a magical place with a big two story house with a picket fence next to it. Then I went into the stables and grabbed one of the saddles and some reins, I quickly tacked her up and then I put my foot into the stirrup. I hopped up onto her back and she took off , she was heading for a cliff and the other side was far away, she was going to jump.

“I'm going to come in and say goodnight” shouted mum as she walked down the hall heading for jorgias room. I stopped reading and waited for her to come into my room for a hug. After a couple of minutes mum came in, “can I read for a bit longer” I asked as she backed away after a hug. “yes but i’m not going to come back in she announced “ok mum” I said as she hurried out of my room back to the tv. Then I started reading again and went back into my book.

I felt a shiver go down my spine as she was gaining speed, I was so so scared. I knew she was not going to make it,  I could feel it. It was so frightening that I wondered if this was going to be my day of death. We were very near to the edge of the cliff, I was horrified, why was she doing this?To kill me or something? What  am I going to do I can't just jump off her back. Woah!!!!! She’s jumping. I closed my eyes and waited all I could feel was the wind blowing in my hair. I felt a thump!!!! Ohh my I’m at the bottom of the cliff aren't I. I opened my eyes I was soooo amazed I was actually laughing, I’m at the other side. But this place is magical, also beautiful and there is more of her kind

“Its time to stop reading tia” yelled mum “ok mum” I yelled back as I was closing my book. I gently put my book down on my bedside table. After that I got out of my bed, turned out my light and then got back into my bed. then I snuggled down and went off to sleep, Goodnight.

“Get into your fluffy pink bed bella it's time to sleep”  urged mum.

‘Ok mum’ I thought to myself. Clambering into my pink warm fluffy bed, I  curled up into a ball and drifted into my favorite dreams, chasing birds which is my favourite meal.

Yay its morning. Time to get up and have breakfast. I went into the kitchen to see my mum she wasn't there perhaps she hasn't got out of bed yet. I ran to her room there she is still fast asleep I should wake her hehehe. I jumped up on to the bed and ran to her face I licked it, still not awake I licked again she is waking up I got up and ran out of the room back into my bed so it wasn't that suspicious. She got up and walked to the kitchen she said breakfast time bella and gave me my breakfast , OH NO her hair went in her face. Im in trouble I thought as she wiped it out of her face. ahhhhhhhhhh she screamed as I quickly scampered out of the cat flap. I ran up the driveway and across the road  to our neighbors house luckily they have a animal “a bunny” I love to chase it.

I ran to the cage and unlocked it. This is my favorite activity of the day and it has just started. As I was chasing the poor innocent bunny I heard the back door open, they saw me I quickly stopped what I was doing and once again ran out the driveway but this time i'm going to my best friend Ellie's house, she lives in the long thin alleyway beside the smelly place what my owner calls the rubbish dump I don't know why she calls it that, I ran and ran suddenly I stopped I could smell something sniff sniff it smells like …….. Sausages, I was starving  it does not help that I did not have breakfast this morning, I ran into the sweet smell of glorious sausages, After about 10 minutes of searching for the sausages finally found them. OH NO they were being guarded by a man dressed in a sausage. When he wasn't looking I dived into the humongous crate of sweet sweet sausages. I got out of the crate as the  sausage man swept his giant hand at me I just escaped as he was sprinting towards me so I quickly scampered  into the dark thin alleyway I was finally here after a lot of running away, I went into Ellie's house and told her all about it.



"I'm surprised your still alive" announced Ellie as I was catching my breath. Ellie offered me a cat biscuit. " No thanks" I said under my breath, after a while I got my breath back and Ellie said her biscuits were home made but I did not believe her cause you can only get them from the giant shelf in the building down the road. Finally I left Ellie's house and started to head home when I thought maybe I could make it to one more place before I go home to my angry owner so I went down the opposite st to Ellie's and went to my 2nd best friends house and his name is Jasper the black, grey and white cat. Jasper was a little bit scary because he hisses and scratches but he was not treated properly by his owner, thats why he ran away. So I carryed on going to his house, he lives in the old creepy ally way by the old haunted house. I felt a bit anxious when I walked throuh the alley way.

I got there about 2.00 then clawed the door to let him know i'm here he opened the door and hissed he said "go away Bella". I said I would like to have a bowl of milk with you he said go away and hissed. So I finally started heading back home to my angry owner.

I finally got to my doorstep and walked slowly in the cat flap and looked left and right to see if my owner was there. She was not there I looked in the lounge there she was looking very angry. I walked in she looked at me then stomped over to me with her giant feet smashing against the ground. she picked me up and lock me in the carry cage. well that's a awesome way to end the day I thought to myself because I was home safe and could curl up in the uncomfortable carry cage.
